Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the ground breaking 8-week curriculum first developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center’s Center for Mindfulness. The class uses meditation, yoga and inquiry as a way of training people to relate differently to stresses in their lives and in fact, relate differently to each moment of their lives.
There is currently a strong base of research evidence supporting the benefits of mindfulness for a wide variety of dis-ease. There are also a variety of specific evidence-based models for teaching mindfulness, including MBSR, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). Lucia’s expertise is broader and deeper, helping clinicians understand the basic tenants of mindfulness and ways to modify these for a wide variety of populations and settings.
